Clearway Minnesota’s new report shines a light on tobacco companies’ marketing practices

A new campaign exposes the way tobacco companies have evolved for the 21st century.
Clarity Coverdale Fury Advertising recently completed a new website for their client, ClearWay Minnesota, that is part of a campaign that focuses on the marketing practices of tobacco companies.
ClearWay Minnesota is an independent, nonprofit organization that improves the health of Minnesotans by reducing the harm caused by tobacco through its QUITPLAN stop-smoking services, statewide outreach activities and research.
The new website, unfilteredmn.org, is the information vehicle for ClearWay Minnesota’s comprehensive report: Unfiltered: A Revealing Look at Today\'s Tobacco Industry. The report shines a light on how the tobacco industry has continued to evolve and thrive despite billion dollar settlements designed to change the way the industry does business.
The website has numerous mini case studies that detail examples of what tobacco companies are doing to promote new products, reach new audiences and continue to grow sales worldwide such as:
• In Yunnan Province, China, students are issued uniforms covered in advertisements, including ones for Marlboro
• Tobacco door-cling advertisements at conveniences stores located at eye level of children
• Spending more on public relations to promote its corporate giving – more than it spent on the giving itself
The website also includes a “Be Heard” tool that allows people to share their personal comments and photos about their experiences with tobacco industry marketing. The website can be found at
